The story of Jing River Loong King

These Loong princes are all sons of the Jing River Loong King. To escape their doomed fate of being killed, they hide in the deepest parts of each level. But in the end, they can't escape the relentless pursuit of us destined ones.

Black Myth is based on the novel "Journey to the West," so the story starts there.

One day, a fisherman and a woodcutter were chatting. The fisherman bragged to the woodcutter about his bountiful daily catches. Curious, the woodcutter asked him for his secret. The fisherman said, "Before I head out to fish each day, I visit a fortune teller named Yuan Shoucheng in town. I ask him where I can catch more fish, and I follow his directions to the spots he suggests. Every time, I come back with a full haul!"

Their conversation was overheard by the Jinghe Loong King, the guardian of the Jinghe River, who oversees everything around the river: the lives of fish and shrimp, the timing and amount of rainfall, and so on. The old Loong king was worried that if this continued, the fish and shrimp in the Jinghe River would be fished to extinction. So, he transformed himself into a human and confronted Yuan Shoucheng, asking him to predict the timing and amount of rainfall. The old dragon king bet him that if he made a wrong prediction, he would have to leave.

In the end, Yuan Shoucheng got it right. The Jinghe Loong King then came up with a really dumb idea: he secretly changed the timing and amount of rainfall. This caught the attention of the Jade Emperor, who found out and, in violation of heavenly law, ordered the human general Wei Zheng to execute the old Loong king.

Terrified, the Jinghe Loong King sought advice from Yuan Shoucheng, who told him to ask the human emperor, Tang Taizong, for help. They arranged for Tang Taizong to invite Wei Zheng to play chess, hoping to delay the execution ordered by the Jade Emperor.

To stall for time, Tang Taizong played chess incredibly slowly. As a result, Wei Zheng fell asleep during the game, and in his dream, he executed the old Loong king!

The old Loong king felt betrayed by Tang Taizong and believed he had been abandoned. So, his ghost haunted Tang Taizong every day. In response, Tang Taizong invited many monks to hold a scripture conference to help release the Loong king's ghost . During this conference, he received guidance from a celestial being, which eventually led to the plan for Tang Seng to go West to fetch scriptures.

In this tale, the old Loong king's death was actually a setup by the heavenly court and the Buddha of the West, meant to lay the groundwork for the later quest for scriptures.

After the old Loong king was executed, his sons were extremely worried about their own fates. They sought Yuan Shoucheng's help to predict the future, and he told them that no matter where they hid, someone would eventually come for their lives. Those called destined one.
